Love and Unity

Love and Unity

I was moved to write a different style of journal page, at a time where hope has to triumph over fear ..’You see, war is not the answer For only love can conquer hate You know we’ve got to find a way To bring some lovin’ here today..’  Marvin Gaye I took part in the kiss chain at the weekend, across Europe to show  support behind the campaign for Britain to stay in the European Union. The kisses started in Rome then went to Paris, Berlin and London. It made the Guinness World of Records for the longest kiss chain. It was a wonderful shared experience in the sunshine. We gathered in Parliament Square, where the flowers and messages have been left in memory of Jo Cox. ‘What the world needs now is love, sweet love It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of What the world needs now is love, sweet love, No not just for some but for everyone.’  Burt Bacharach   ‘The challenges we face are, by far, best met together. Our unity is a force for peace, for human and labour rights, for environmental sustainability, for our future’..quote from...
Colourful Flowers…and Leaves!

Colourful Flowers…and Leaves!

Whilst we are still having a bit of a yo-yo spring in terms of weather, everytime I see the joyful colour of daffodils and tulips, it makes me feel brighter. I love spring flowers, the simplicity of these flowers, with their strong and bold colour. ..just makes the heart sing.. here are some pics I’ve taken …              I am working on a lovely commission for a friend, who has bought several of my leaf design platters and so wanted to use this as inspiration for a set of 4 panels for his landing. I have cut them all out, and assembled them on the floor to see how the design is looking….it is loosely based on the seasons..so will be even more colourful than this, once they are fired in the kiln! Now , I am working more detail in, like this ‘Spring’ panel below. They will have 2 or 3 firings each..I will send photos of the finished panels in my next newsletter. Please sign up here if you would like to be on my quarterly mailing list....
Reflections on a New Year…

Reflections on a New Year…

I might be in the minority, but I quite like January! I feel it is a time for contemplation and reflection about the year that has just finished and also thinking about the year ahead. I am not one for planning too much ahead; I like to try and take things as they come. Often we can miss things if we are constantly looking forward to the next ‘item on the agenda’. However, this is more difficult with running a business, as we are encouraged to plan for the year ahead, write down goals and targets, and refer to our business plan and so on! I come to this year, as my 14th running my little glass business; I would never had thought I would still be doing this when I first started in 2002! It just makes me realise how quickly time passes by…so I am certainly hoping to seize the moment more this year, and to appreciate the here and now. I have a lovely new commission which I am starting ; creating 4 panels for a couple in SE London, which reminds them of their favourite coastal view in Pembrokeshire. As it happens, it is also one of my favourite coastlines, and I ‘m lucky to be able to visit it often as we have friends there! It certainly is an inspirational place, and lovely to escape to for invigorating coastal walks,  so I am particularly looking forward to working on this commission! Apart from that, I am working on an exciting project with Dimbleby Cancer Care; more of that next time.. I love taking photos of reflections, and I thought it would be nice...
A big heartfelt thankyou…

A big heartfelt thankyou…

..to all of my lovely friends and customers, for supporting my glass business, and especially over the past year. It was great to see lots of you at our recent Open Studios, and I am continually touched by your kindness and enthusiasm in buying my glass pieces! As many of you know, I have been making lots of pink glass stars this year, to support the Salisbury Hospital new breast care centre fund. They reached their target, so the build is going ahead next year, which is fantastic news. I have raised just over £800 from sales of the pink stars which will go direct to the fund, so am really chuffed. So a huge thankyou to all of you who have supported this fund by buying the stars, it means a lot. I do still have a few stars left, so if anyone would like one, do please get in touch!   I will then send the final amount to the fund at the end of the year. They are lovely to hang up for the festive season, or hang in the window for all year round lovely colour and sparkle, especially on a dull day! So, many thanks again and I wish everyone a relaxing Christmas and all good wishes for a healthy and happy 2016 With love,...
Autumnal Mood..

Autumnal Mood..

The nights are certainly drawing in now..but we are lucky to still be savouring wonderful sunny balmy days..I love this time of year! The colours just hum with vibrancy in the mellow sunlight..the photo above is of the creeper on our garden fence. I seem to have absorbed the colours and designs of leaves into my work too! …                          A customer recently bought this red and bronze platter and loves it so much , he has commissioned me to design a window with a leaf design! Very excited by this, and will show some pictures when it’s...
